Top 10 lost world. The unique, beautiful and famous world or city once but now disappeared from view.

10. BABYLON (IRAQ)


Once home to "Hanging Gardens", remains of the city walls and palace were found in 19th century.

9. CIUDAD PERDIDA (COLOMBIA)


Lost mountain city founded as far back as the 5th century BC. Stumbled upon by treasure hunter in 1972. 

8. AKROTIRI (GREECE)


"Minoan Bronze Age City" which fell victim to a volcanic eruption circa 1500 BC. Rediscovered in 1967.

7. PALMYRA (SYRIA)


"The Bride of Desert", an important trading centre at the crossroads of several ancient civilization. Rediscovered in 17th century.

6. POMPEII (ITALY)


Roman settlement which was buried in 79 AD following a volcanic eruption. Accidentally rediscovered in 1599.

5. TIKAL (GUATEMALA)



The former capital of the Mayan civilization was abandoned in 900 AD. Lay undiscovered until 19th century.

4.  TROY (TURKEY)


Remains were unearthed in 19th century Anatolia after apparently being burnt to the ground by Greeks.

3. ANGKOR (CAMBODIA)


Capital of Khmer Empire until the 15th century, the 1000 year-old site was uncovered in 19th century by Henri Mouhot.

2. PETRA (JORDAN)


Built in 6th century BC, this Nabataean city is carved into red sandstone mountains. Rediscovered in 1812 by a Swiss traveller.

“The Lost City of The Incas”, abandoned in the 1530s lay undiscovered in the mountains of Peru until the turn of 20th century
